1H, XH and 2H meaning in a coupon line
Melbet's rulebook names the market Handicap bet and offers three outcomes, W1, X and W2. Nigerian coupons print the same trio as 1H, XH and 2H, with the line in brackets beside them.
The bracket shows the goals added before settlement. Melbet's own example takes a 2–1 final score. Handicap [0 : 1] adds a goal to the away side, the score becomes 2–2, and only X wins. Handicap [1 : 0] adds a goal to the home side, the score becomes 3–1, and W1 wins.
Some coupons write the same line as home −1. Taking a goal off the favourite moves the margin exactly as adding one to the underdog does, so −1 on the home team and [0 : 1] settle every score alike.

Score by score with the home side giving one goal
On a 0:1 line the home team starts a goal behind. A home win by two or more, such as 2–0 or 3–1, turns into 2–1 or 3–2 and pays 1H.
A home win by one goal, such as 1–0 or 2–1, becomes 1–1 or 2–2. That result pays XH and nothing else, which matches the Melbet example.
A draw or an away win pays 2H. A 0–0 becomes 0–1 and a 1–2 becomes 1–3, so 2H on this line covers exactly the scores of an X2 double chance bet. The price follows from that overlap, and it is the column to compare when an NPFL home side is a heavy favourite.
Handicap markets settle on regular time. Melbet's football section takes bets on 90 minutes plus injury time, with extra time counted only for markets such as To Qualify.
Two-goal lines and the underdog's start
A 0:2 line asks the home side for a three-goal margin. A 3–0 adjusts to 3–2 and pays 1H, a 2–0 adjusts to 2–2 and pays XH, and a 1–0 adjusts to 1–2 and pays 2H.
A 1:0 line flips the start to the home team, the shape of the line when the Super Eagles travel as favourites and the hosts receive the goal. A home win or a draw pays 1H, so 1H here repeats the 1X double chance.
An away win by one goal, such as 0–1, adjusts to 1–1 and pays XH. An away win by two, such as 0–2, adjusts to 1–2 and pays 2H. The XH column always sits on one exact margin, and that single band of scores is why it carries the longest price of the three.
A naira example at a Lagos licensee
Say XH at 0:1 is priced at 3.60 at 22Bet, which trades in Lagos as Arcadia Hospitality Limited under LSLGA/OP/OSB/22B230524. A ₦5,000 stake returns ₦18,000 when the home team wins 2–1.
The net win is ₦13,000, the 5% Lagos withholding takes ₦650, and ₦17,350 is paid. A 3–1 or a 1–1 loses the whole stake, because XH pays on one margin only.
The two-way handicap behaves another way. Paripesa's rules settle a handicap bet at odds of 1 when the adjusted score is level, which returns the stake. On the three-way coupon that same level score is the XH winner, and the 1H and 2H stakes are lost.

Questions punters ask
Does XH mean the match itself ends in a draw?
No. XH is the draw after the handicap goals are added, so on a 0:1 line it pays when the home side wins by a single goal. Melbet's rulebook settles Handicap [0 : 1] X as a win on a 2–1, because the adjusted score reads 2–2 at the whistle.
Is a three-way handicap refunded on an adjusted draw?
No refund applies. The adjusted draw is the XH selection, so it wins and both 1H and 2H lose. The refund at odds of 1 in the Paripesa and Melbet rules belongs to the two-way handicap, where no draw column exists to absorb that result.
